Week of 31 August… Let’s get “gymnasty!”

I feel like a broken record at this point, but I have to say that last week’s programming was AWESOME!  Technically, last week was a chance to deload before a new cycle begins this week.  CompTrain has entitled the next 11 weeks of programming “Gymnasty,” which leads me to believe that we will be on the bar, on the rings, and upside down quite a bit!!  You’ll see a few elements of that this week, but I think they’re trying to ease us in to it slowly.  We do, however, have a lot of skill/strength portions this week before the WODs, mostly Olympic lifting.

Thursday this week is going to be a special day with a nice long workout.  One of our Masters athletes, Paul, turns 73 this week, and he came up with an amazingly horrible workout for us all to suffer through to celebrate his birthday.  Don’t cherry pick this sweat fest!!

Since these next few months will be focusing on gymnastics movements in class, we will be hosting a series of Workshops for those of you who might be interested in mastering gymnastics skills (dates and times TBD).  That might be getting your first pull-up, toes to bar, bar muscle up, ring muscle up, handstand push-up, etc.  As an extension of those workshops, I encourage all of you to set up some skill sessions with our coaches to get a little one on one help and guidance.  That might even include extra programming for you to do to get you to your goals faster.  The Open is coming up in February, and if you’re like me, you want to be as prepared as possible.  Personally, that means working with Brier on gymnastics, which is my biggest weakness.  It means talking to Tiffany and Amy about my nutrition goals to build muscle.   It also means talking to Coach Song about Olympic lifting!  There are so many opportunities for growth and knowledge, and if you feel stuck just ask me or one of the coaches what your next step should be.

Hope you guys get a chance to check out the new Air Runner this week on the Barbell side!!  Just take it slow at first, please!

Have a GREAT week, folks.
