Let’s Talk Sleep

Sleep Matters

You may have heard me talking lately about sleep being a main source of recovery.  Sleep is like nutrition for the brain. If you are plateauing in your workouts, feeling foggy and tired, or needing caffeine in the afternoon – lack of structured sleep could be the culprit.

Did you know that lack of shut eye can also make you gain weight? Our bodies need a minimum of 7-9 hours of sleep a night to function at a level appropriate for training and, frankly, LIFE. Get less than that, and your body will react in ways that can lead the most determined dieter straight to a pint of Ben & Jerry’s or bottle of wine…..or BOTH!!!
If you are wanting to continue with the level of training that we program at Forward and grow as an athlete, you MUST take care of your body outside of the gym. This is done by proper hydration, proper nutrition, and proper SLEEP!!!
Here is a great link to help baby step you on the way to sleeping a full 7-9 hours each night.
I personally have started doing these and it has helped a lot. Stress levels are down, scale is finally at a number I am ok with and workouts are improving. It’s hard to do but take a look at your daily routine and make some positive changes. If you need to talk let me know, I am here to help.
